Marine Labour Organisation

The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), also known as the "seafarers' bill of rights," was established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2006 and came into force in 2013. It sets comprehensive rights and protection at work for seafarers worldwide. The MLC consolidates and updates more than 65 international labor standards related to the maritime sector adopted over the last 80 years. It aims to ensure fair wages, safe and secure workplace conditions, medical care, and social security for seafarers, while also seeking to improve the economic interests and sustainability of the maritime industry. The convention covers various aspects such as minimum working and living conditions, employment terms, health protection, medical care, welfare, and social security protection for seafarers.
